Required bars count

Defines the number of periods after which the strategy will be calculated (adjusted). For example, SMA requires at least 20 periods (bars) to correctly calculate the moving average and consequently formulate accurate conclusions for the strategy calculation. It is especially important for the backtesting.

The mouse indicator will change to a rectangle with an arrow. Click in the charting area again to connect the rows of the Strategy Escort to the chart (single chart or single chart group).

To load the chart, left click on the appropriate instruments in the Strategy Escort.

The Strategy Escort shows two types of strategies:

  • Fully automated programmed strategies: these strategies must be explicitly started or stopped for an instrument or multiple instruments (e.g. from the Chart or the Strategy Escort).

  • Semi-automated AgenaTrader++ strategies: the entries of these strategies are handled discretionarily and are managed by the trade management.

Relationship between a list chart group and the Strategy Escort

(this pertains to semi-automated AT++ strategies)

The Analyzer Column column displays signals (signals are not strategies) that are driven by real-time events. If a signal-based AgenaTrader++ setup (necessary settings can be made in the Setup Builder is activated and executed, then the strategy takes over to control your position. If you click on an instrument from the list chart group when AgenaTrader++ is activated, then the corresponding row will be displayed in the Strategy Escort (though no trade will take place yet).

Once you have entered a position (for example, short EURCAD) then the strategy will become active and start to manage your position. If you continue clicking within the list chart group you will see that the strategy is activated to manage the opened position. This applies to currently active trades as well as confirmed orders (not proposal orders) in the chart. In these cases the strategy shifts to the strategy manager and receives the status "Background".

Relationship between a tab chart group and the Strategy Escort

(this pertains to semi-automated AT++ strategies)

If you want the strategy for one or all instruments in the tab chart group to start as soon as AgenaTrader++ is opened, check the Tab Chart Group Autosynchronization checkbox in the Global Configuration -> General -> Global Configuration: Chart. If the Tab Chart Group Autosynchronization is not selected, then AT++ must be manually opened/closed for every instrument (the same applies to single chart groups and single charts).
