Charting

Last updated 2 months ago

AgenaTrader's innovative chart container concept enables you to:

  • display a in one tab

  • display multiple charts of the same specified instrument in a charting area as:

    • (LCG)

    • (TCG)

Navigating a chart

You can navigate within the chart using:

mouse or keyboard.

On the bottom left of chart you may see status Indicators:

Mouse

This section covers the mouse functionalities when using AgenaTrader.

Double-clicking an indicator or drawing object

By double-clicking an indicator, an indicator panel or a drawing object, you will open the associated parameter dialog window. If you double-click on an indicator then it will be automatically selected within the indicator list dialog

Clicking in the charting area

Left click in the charting area to open the data box

According to the current position of the cursor on the chart, the data box displays the following information concerning the price period (candles, etc.):

  • Date & Time

  • Opening price

  • High

  • Low

  • Closing price

  • Volume

  • Additionally, the values of all indicators currently displayed on the chart.

Time scale

Depending on the specified time interval, the horizontal time scale includes time markers for a chart. Intraday charts display day/period breaks as date + time, whereas all other time markers are represented in the "HH:MM" or "HH:MM:SS" format.

If the cross-hair pointer is enabled, the current date/time will be highlighted in color

Click and hold the left mouse button in the time scale area to move the chart to the left or right. Click and hold the right mouse button in the time scale area to zoom in or zoom out on the chart horizontally.

The arrow located in the upper right corner of the chart indicates that part of it has been shifted or hidden. In other words, the currently displayed position is not the original position of the chart

To revert the chart to its original position, double-click on the time scale or left click on the arrow.

Price scale

The vertical price scale contains various prices and price markers for different chart objects such as:

  • Current market price

  • Indicator values

  • Values of horizontal lines etc

Click and hold the left mouse button in the price scale area to move the chart up and down. Click and hold the right mouse button in the price scale area to zoom in or zoom out on the chart horizontally.

Auto scale after modifying the chart

If pins are visible on the chart, this means that the auto scale mode for the chart is disabled (the chart will not align itself automatically). Once a new candlestick has occurred and is displayed outside of the viewing pane (below or above) then the pin icon will turn red. This indicates that the current candle is not within the visible part of the chart space. Clicking the pin will activate the auto scale mode and re-align the chart properly

Mouse wheel

Hold Ctrl and use the mouse wheel to zoom the chart vertically. Hold Alt and use the mouse wheel to zoom the chart horizontally.

Price&Time scale

As a new feature in the AgenaTrader development of version 1.7.x.x it is now possible to scale the price and time axis simultaneously. Press and hold STRG resp. CTRL on the keyboard as well as press and hold the left mouse button within the chart and move the pointer.

Create a tab chart group

A Tab Chart Group is a chart container that simultaneously opens multiple charts for various instruments and shows the symbols for instruments in the bottom tab bar.

AgenaTrader is able to display hundreds of instruments within 4 charts in different time frames. All charts within a tab chart group container display real time data.

In order to open a tab chart group inside the container use one of the options:''

  1. Select Tab Chart Group by using Main -> New -> Chart container or

Coloring the background of the bottom tabs

Right click on the symbol and select the Mark item menu option to pick a color for the tab. By selecting the Reset Marked Item menu the color can be removed

AgenaTrader ++ (plus plus) setups in tab chart groups

Once AgenaTrader++ plusplus is activated in a chart within the tab chart group, the system may suggest orders using the defined strategy according to the market events. If this happens you will see a marker with a grey dot next to the name of the corresponding instrument inside the chart group / tab chart group.

Later on, the long position in a chart group or tab chart group will be marked with a green dot and the short position with a red dot

Reload the Tab Chart Group

Tab chart group lists should be distinguished from instrument lists.

If, for example, you expand your instrument list with another instrument (Currency-Long-List), the newly added instrument will not be shown automatically in the TabChartGroup. It is necessary to reload the TabChartGroup together with the Instrument List (Currency-Long-List).

AgenaTrader enables you to select and reload multiple instrument lists using the Reload Instrument List menu item. Please note that these selections will only be valid for the chosen tab chart group.

This makes it possible to choose the Reload Selected menu option to update the edited lists for the current tab chart group on a daily basis.

This is especially useful if you wish to retrieve the current configuration of a dynamic instrument list or stock EOD Screener Presets on a daily basis

Chart Gallery Actionbar

The Gallery ActionBar is located on the right-hand side of the chart and is equipped with various functions to improve trading management.

It has several new functions available only for Charts Galleries:

Open the Dynamic Scanner via Main->New->Chart Container, and from the list, select a template to be used for the Dynamic Scanner.

The Dynamic Scanner opens up, and now automatically collects all available signals that are active in one of your opened charts/chart groups. By default, it searches according to all Analyzer Sessions, i.e. every signal that you have activated in one of your Analyzer Sessions. If you would like to limit the display to certain sessions, simply use the dropdown menu to select the sessions for which the Dynamic Scanner should collect the signals.

The Dynamic Scanner is now the only tab in AgenaTrader on which you need to focus your attention. You no longer need to switch between individual tabs and check whether you are receiving signals; every signal automatically lands in the Dynamic Scanner, and you can very easily place the orders for all active signals.

Show open trades: If activated Dynamic Scanner display open trades Show open orders: If activated Dynamic Scanner display open orders

Each new signal that is shown in the Dynamic Scanner appears with the symbol name written in bold. As soon as you click on the signal, the signal is accepted as ā€œseenā€, and the symbol name appears in normal font once more. This behavior is designed to help you keep an overview of which signals you have already checked, and which have just been newly loaded to the Dynamic Scanner.

As soon as a new signal is generated somewhere in your AgenaTrader, it is immediately shown in the Dynamic Scanner in real time.

With the Dynamic Scanner, your daily trading becomes one step more convenient, and starting immediately, you now only have to concentrate on one single tab in AgenaTrader, then place your orders, and finally hand the trade management back to the AT++ algorithm once again.

Please note: When Dynamic Scanner is active and you add a new session in Setup Builder, in order to reload and add this new session, Dynamic Scanner needs to be closed and reopened.

Allow the Dynamic Scanner to remove another work step for you, and simply concentrate 100% on the direct trading decision of whether to place a suggested order in the market or not – this is semi-automatic trading to perfection!
